This commemorative baton, according to the inscription presented to the conductor Harry Harland by the Prudhoe Wesleyan Church Choir (later the Prudhoe Gleemen) in 1914; on 19 August 1924, Harland used the baton to conduct before King George V’s wife, Queen Mary (1867-1953). The baton is accompanied by framed documents, including a preserved program of the said concert signed by Queen Mary, and a letter written for the occasion. The body of the baton is conical, made of lacquered wood with silver fittings; the grip is finished with a large, silver knob with engraved acanthus leaves; atop the knob, an octagon was carved with concave sides, unadorned in the middle; the tip and the ring attached at 1/3 of the length are adorned with the same acanthus leaves motif; the ring has a frame with an engraved inscription; hallmarked for London in 1910, silversmith’s mark: E·N (Ebenezer Newman & Co.)
