Black, two-piece baton, screwed together at half-way point, with an internal metal connector; conical body made of light wood with plain, silvered metal fittings on the grip, tip, and screw, with serrated sides; inscription in French on the middle fitting. As per inscription, the baton was a gift to captain J.R. Gauthier, possibly a conductor of a military brass band.
