a massive, short baton made of ivory; the grip is wide with numerous cracks, the tip is pointed, made of a separate piece of bone; the grip is finished with a big, silver bulb, pear-shaped and flattened, with a ram’s head and a floral (bucranium-like) garland and a band imprinted on both sides; on top of the bulb, a garland with leaves and a band; according to the hallmarks, the baton was stamped in Sheffield ca. 1879, maker’s mark J.R
